General Accountability

B-Train Petroleum Driver will be responsible for the delivery of petroleum products over established routes. Responsibilities include the correct loading of the vehicle, recording of delivery information, accepting payment for goods and ensuring overall vehicle safety. B-Train Petroleum Drivers work in the cab of the truck while driving, and outside when needed to load or unload. They can encounter all kinds of road, weather and traffic conditions. B-Train Petroleum Driver will be expected to operate the delivery vehicle in a safe manner at all times, obeying all rules of the road and follow all appropriate company policies and procedures. B-Train Petroleum Drivers generally work without direct supervision and will be paid according to our collective agreement. The number of hours a driver may drive in a given period is subject to regulation. Overtime and weekend work is common.

Job Duties

  • Safely operate delivery truck to pick up and deliver various products obeying all rules of the road
  • Communicate with central dispatch as well as customers and co-workers
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspection, keep vehicle clean and ensure proper preventative maintenance and lubrication is carried out as required
  • Achieve and surpass petroleum, burner fuels objectives at minimum costs as measured by liters delivered/kilometers, cost/kilometers and liters/delivery
  • Provide automatic delivery of burner fuels based on degree days; provides delivery of other fuels as required and maintains appropriate levels
  • Record loading of products on Transport Dip forms for Dangerous Goods Documents
  • Record information concerning unloading of products on Transport Dip forms for each location
  • Use defensive driving skills and techniques
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicle
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weight
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed
  • Check vehicle before driving to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicle
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
  • Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable regulations
  • Maintain current legislated or company required licenses, permits and certificates
  • Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, etc. by manual or electronic means
  • Maintain truck’s overall service and perform required inspections
  • Use safe loading and unloading procedures
  • Ensure bulk plant operations are secured whenever unattended
  • Adhere to Gasoline Handling Act regulations for loading and unloading and report all malfunctions of equipment promptly to the Supervisor
  • Be aware of steps and procedures required in case of accidents involving hazardous products and follow procedures as stipulated
  • Promote Co-opérative Régionale’s products, services and philosophy
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid AZ License
  • Petroleum Delivery Experience an asset
  • Computer knowledge
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques
  • High level of personal integrity
  • Strong work ethic
  • Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Confident, consistent decisive personality
  • Must be able to work with little supervision
  • Good knowledge of the Highway Traffic, the Truck Transportation and Gasoline Handling Acts.
  • Knowledge of the Co-op’s organization, policies and principles
